As you head into your week I want you to stop doing this one thing..........Stop following the crowds. What do I mean by that? Stop following the people who are not getting you where you want to go. This directly relates to your circle of influence. Stop following people that are settling for mediocre, or you will start settling for that too. When you follow the crowds you have a tendency to loose your identity because you are trying to become something you are probably not because you are so afraid of what people might think of you. Screw that! Pave your own way and blaze your own path. That is what the very successful do. They know that people are going to criticize them or make fun of them, but THEY DON'T CARE! Neither should you.

No one attacks mediocrity - They attack success so get ready.

Blaze your own path and stop following the crowds.

On to the show with Vinnie Montez

Charlie Chaplin said, “I believe in the power of laughter and tears as an antidote to hatred and terror.”

Remember that the body heals with play, the mind heals with laughter and spirit heals with joy.

Vinnie Montez is a good friend, full time law enforcement Commander and one of the most popular stand-up comedians out there.

Vinnie is a loud, boisterous and yet insightful comic. With a strong Mexican heritage his mom and dad were the biggest influences in his life; they weren’t afraid to be themselves or stray from the traditional Mexican culture, instilling core values while letting him find his own way. He grew up in Colorado and always knew he wanted to become a police officer and in 1998 his dream was realized. He has been a successful law enforcement professional for many years, and he has had many assignments. Presently Vinnie is a Commander with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department.

Vinnie got into comedy in 2007 with a trial performance with an open mic night at Comedy Works in Denver and has never looked back. He has shared the stage with Joe Rogan, John Crist and Paul Rodriguez to name a few.

Vinnie is also heavily involved in charitable organizations and law enforcement causes and programs such as Humanize the Badge.

Vinnie and I get personal with our talk and he shared some of the obstacles he has overcome personally and professionally.

A great show and a must listen.

As you start your day and everyday, I want you to begin in gratitude. If you are then great, if you are not then begin starting your day with this powerful tool. You have much to be grateful for, even in this time of uncertainty. If you are a first responder, then you have a job when many people are losing theirs. You have your health and you have your family to name a few.

Going forward, I want you to start a list every day of the people and things you are grateful for. You can make it a list of 3 or 5. Then next day I want you to make another list of 3-5 people or things you are grateful for. Before you know it, you will have a very large list of positive people and things in your life you are grateful for. I want you to look at the list before you go to bed and immediately when you wake up.

I am willing to bet if you start doing this you will be more happier and positive. And best of all you can share this with others.

Maybe pick up the phone and reconnect with family and friends or try to heal a damaged relationship.

Take the time to start that book you have been talking about. Put that business plan down on paper. Maybe take the time to study more for that promotion that you want.

This pandemic will pass, along with the time you have now. How are you spending it? Make it count.

Stay strong and keep your head up high.

On to the show with Dr. Peter Killeen.

Dr. Peter Killeen is a Police Pyschotherapist, Author and Trainer. He recently published the first three books of the Operation Longevity series. The message throughout both books is to help the Law Enforcement Professional learn to live a more healthy and sustainable life. In addition, Peter  introduced the "Operation Longevity 'Call to Change' Coin Challenge" into the law enforcement community.

Peter has worked with the law enforcement community as a therapist and educator for the past twenty three years on the local, state and federal level. He has significant experience in dealing with PTSD and first responders. Dr. Killeen is also a certified mediator for Equal Opportunity (EEO) Issues and his work in mediation began in 2003.

Peter has also developed a 2-3-hour course for training the law enforcement professional on the psychology of a career in enforcement. The scope of the training begins with the initial years in law enforcement, the terrible two's, PTSD, anxiety, depression, treatment, medication use, communication skills, preparing for retirement. This course is a must for every law enforcement professional on all levels and should be mandatory for all training academies.

Dr. Killeen has recently begun a journey to create a more serene lifestyle for himself. Having been through some horrific disasters in his work, and having been twice diagnosed with cancer, I felt it was time to start his own journey for balance and peace in his life.

In addition, Peter lectures to both the public and private sector on topics such as, "The Schindler Syndrome" and "Compassion Fatigue." Individuals are extremely vulnerable to both these issues.

On to the show

As you head into your Monday, please remain calm, stay optimistic and remember to take care of each other. I know a big part of your job is remaining calm in the midst of chaos but remember that a lot of people are going to the "dark side" with the Coronavirus pandemic. Your job is to help them remain calm and remain positive. While I am not trying to mitigate the severity of the virus, I do believe that there is a lot of hysteria and fear out there that is not warranted. In my opinion, the Fear and Hysteria that surrounds Coronavirus is much more contagious now.

We will get through this and this too will pass.

Remember to take care of the people that need extra help right now. Such as the elderly or people that need help. We need to continue to come together as a community because that is what is going to get us through this.

Information from the CDC on Coronavirus and how to protect yourself.
