There is a lot of discussion now about training for law enforcement officers. Officers get a lot of training during the course of their career but some training is better than others. Officers are faced with interactions every day which could result in split-second decisions, and there needs to be training that assists with these decisions.
Enter VirTra - This company creates realistic, immersive judgmental use of force training simulations for the US Military and Law Enforcement.
On this episode I am honored to have Lon Bartel on the show. Lon is the VP of Training and Curriculum for VirTra and he brings his extensive law enforcement experience and training to Virtra.
If you are looking for a training platform for your agency there is only one choice and that is VirTra.

As you head into your week I want you to focus on The Other Side of your Challenges. Maybe it's personal, professional or both. When you focus on getting to a better place your mind will begin to move in that direction. Your mind is very powerful.
There is the other side. The side you want to be on. The side of happiness and contentment. You can get there, but you have to focus and put in the work.

I wear a bracelet on my wrist that says "Memento Mori". This ancient saying goes back to the time of Socrates. The literal translation means "Remember you will die."
Yes, everything living on this planet will die at some point, including you and I. I look at this everyday and ponder if I am living the life I am supposed to be. Am I giving it my all. Am I giving back to my fellow humans the way I want to. If not, its up to me to make the change and not wait for someone else to do it.
Suicide rates in this country and among first responders are staggering with no signs of slowing down unfortunately. I often wonder if the soul still suffers when someone takes their own life. My opinion is it does. I think those souls are shown a life of "What could have been" if they have kept going, had faith and reached out for help when they needed it.
Take a look at your life and dive deep. Are you living the best life you can right now. If not remember Memento Mori.
Stay strong, Stay safe and see you next time.

Happy Monday everyone. I want to express my condolences to the family of Tyre Nichols. His death at the hands of law enforcement officers shocked the nation. This is not a reflection on the entire law enforcement profession as a whole.
Organizational culture played a key role in this horrific event, and in my opinion an investigation to the entire department needs to take place. My guess is that this is systemic within the agency and ultimately The Chief of Police is responsible for the culture of an organization, good or bad.
What is the culture within your organization?
While the Chief was in front of the media preparing citizens before the release of the videos, the buck stops with the Chief.
Hopefully, justice will be served in this incident.
Go out and do the best job you can and please be safe.

I am so excited to have my friend Vicki Hixson on the show. She is one of the most passionate people I have met.
Vicki has been a law enforcement officer in Arizona for over 25 years and has also managed first responder peer support programs since 2013. Vicki is passionate about assisting public safety agencies in creating comprehensive wellness programs and supporting first responders and their families. As the owner of Critical Incident Consulting, LLC, she provides customized solutions, training, employee care plans, and creative wellness programs to agencies nationally while recognizing the needs of both the employees and the agencies. She is also a co-creator and co-host of the Ride Along Chronicles podcast; a social podcast focusing on the unique challenges of first responder families told through confidential storytelling. She has been married to her law enforcement officer husband for over 25 years and together they raised three children
Such a great and informative show with a person who is dedicated to helping our brave men and women who serve.
