I wasn’t sure if my next guest, Erik Salzenstein, was going to come on the show but I am so happy he did. At age 23, Erik found himself facing life in prison. With his back against the wall, he finally had to face his biggest enemy up until that point…..himself.
Erik had to go to prison to find freedom, but the truth is, he realized he lost his freedom long before that day in the courtroom. He recognized we can be in “prison” without physically being in prison.
He spent 4 years relentlessly pursuing personal growth, coaching, speaking, running workshops, and even being published in a newspaper for a speaking event while incarcerated.

Remember you "Make your own luck every single minute of every single day".  Do you ever say to yourself "wow, that person is really lucky?" or "Everything seems to be going right for that person?". I know I do sometimes, but what is Luck really?
Luck is defined as "success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions." While I do believe that sometimes things do happen by chance, I believe you can attract more luck by THE ACTIONS YOU TAKE. The most successful people are viewed as "lucky" because of the ACTIONS they have TAKEN in their life. Remember that NOTHING falls into your lap. We live in an instant gratification society, but in the real world ACTION must be take in order to  become successful and hence MORE LUCKY. 
Remember you can control how much luck comes your way. Success leave clues and it's is a byproduct of ACTION. 
Go after your dreams and goals. Not tomorrow, next week or next year - NOW. The more action you take the more luck you will make.

Do you ever feel like you are floating around life with no purpose? I know I do sometimes, and when I start going down that path I come back to my why. That is MOST people out their.  A lot of people are on their current path because of other factors. Maybe your parents told you to go on a certain path. Maybe you think you can't do anything else with your life. Maybe you think you are STUCK in the position you are in right now (Side note- I don't believe we are ever really stuck). 
Take some time to figure out your why? Once you do that you will get Clarity and it will improve your LIFE. Success if yours. Remember to cultivate and develop your why.

So many of our brave men and women are suffering in silence and it doesn’t have to be that way. All you have to do is ask for help. That is the hardest step, but it’s not impossible. There are many resources out there for anyone who is suffering.
My next guest, Michael Sugrue, suffered for a long time until he asked for help. Michael began his law enforcement career in the United States Air Force as a Security Forces Officer in 1998. As a Security Forces Officer, Michael specialized in Law Enforcement, Global Force Protection, Anti-Terrorism, Nuclear Security, Foreign Air Field Assessments and Air Base Ground Defense.Michael served in a variety of assignments including: Flight Leader, Flight Commander, Senior Watch Officer, Chief of Command Post and Chief of Security Forces.Michael served all over the United States, Europe, the Middle East and South America. He was also a Security Forces Phoenix Raven with the unique identifier of #1173. Michael honorably separated from the Air Force as a Captain in 2004.Immediately after the Air Force, Michael was hired by the Walnut Creek Police Department where he served in a variety of assignments including: Patrol Officer, Driver Training Instructor (EVOC) Field Training Officer (FTO), SIU Detective, Undercover CA DOJ Narcotic Task Force Agent (Contra Costa County), Public Information Officer (PIO) and Patrol Sergeant.Michael was awarded the Walnut Creek PD Distinguished Service Medal in 2014 for his heroic and life-saving actions during a Fatal Officer Involved Shooting in 2012.Michael ultimately medically retired in 2018. He is now a Peer Volunteer at the West Coast Post Trauma Retreat (WCPR) and an Ambassador for Save A Warrior (SAW).Michael is a dedicated advocate for awareness, prevention, education, training on Post Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) and First Responder Suicide Prevention. Michael continues to speak at law enforcement agencies all over the United States.

Such an honor to have Christopher Strom on the show. Chris is a former US. Marine and Retired Sergeant with the NYPD Intelligence Division. In 2007, Chris was recruited by the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO), a government agency that devised top-secret strategies for combating IED’s in Iraq in Afghanistan. As the lead tactical debriefing officer, he participated in over 110 combat missions and 91 captures of high-value targets (HVT’s) in Southern Iraq and performed more than 200 Battlefield Interrogations.
Chris details his journey in his best-selling book Brooklyn to Baghdad an NYPD Intelligence Cop Fights Terror in Iraq. In his book, Chris applies his street-cop tactics and interrogation skills against a lethal insurgency that had infected Iraq. A group of retired Special Forces soldiers and law enforcement experts came together to form the counterinsurgency group codenamed “Phoenix Team.” Exposing the corruption of both the Iraqi and US governments, the team faced serious setbacks and challenges. Brooklyn to Baghdad shows the effectiveness of Phoenix Team, their ability to process forensic evidence and human intelligence gleaned through interrogations at the point of capture to provide direct targeting for follow-on missions. This memoir also illustrates the politics of Washington, DC, and the US Army in the war-fighting effort, which continually hampered complete success while simultaneously preserving career aspirations. Throughout are many humorous and emotional anecdotes that reveal the men behind the missions and the toll the theater of war takes on real human lives

I am excited to have my next guest on the show, D.J. Vodicka. For sixteen years, he was a prison guard in California's highest security prisons, serving meals to gang leaders, serial killers in lockdown cells, and patrolling exercise yards filled with violent felons while unarmed and outnumbered 1000-to-2. He belonged to an elite unit called the Investigative Services Unit (Internal Affairs), responsible for solving horrific crimes inside the walls. He was a decorated veteran officer. He became the largest "whistle-blower" to uncover a group of rogue prison guards who called themselves "The Green Wall."The Green Wall is a real-life drama of one man's courage to do the right thing against the California State Prison System. It is an unblinking look at what can go wrong when only one person is willing to stand up and speak for what is right, against almost insurmountable odds. Vodicka's televised state senate testimony exposed a scandal that led to resignations, transfers, sudden retirements, and reforms of the system that are still underway.
